BIOGRAPHY

I have been making pottery on a part-time basis for over 40 years. I was introduced to wheel-throwing in high school and then studied it for a couple of years under David MacDonald at Syracuse University (as a sideline to completing my engineering degree). Since that time, I have continued to explore the beauty, resiliency, and communicative power of clay. Overall, the major theme that consistently runs through my pottery is functionality and I like to experiment with alternative forms that can serve the same function, in essence challenging the conventional wisdom that form follows function and vice versa. At the same time, I like to explore the opportunities various forms present for creating unique aesthetic statements and the impact that surface design has on each piece.
