What is the Fish Market Project?

The Fish Market Project (named after the original sign from the old store, which is still hanging) was a closed-down storefront that was rehabbed to an artist space/community center located in North Central Troy. Participating artists will activate the space to engage with the community, create new work, and host specialty events throughout the duration of the project.

The project’s primary goal is to create a space where artists and community can gather, and where the Arts Center can learn about our community’s needs, visions and hopes for their future. We hope to understand how the arts and the Arts Center can play a role in serving these needs and, in turn, respond with long term programming solutions. The future of the project is in the hands of the community, and we are excited to shape it—together.

What’s Happening at The Fish Market Now?

We are proud to introduce a new community-focused project called N. Central Troy Creates, taking place at the Fish Market!

N. Central Troy Creates is a year-long community activation and placemaking project developed by the Arts Center as a larger initiative to engage with the North Central Troy Community. This is an artist-led project by artist experienced in community engagement and creative development.

N. Central Troy Creates will hold weekly drop-in art-making sessions, workshops, and events throughout the year to connect with the community and foster creative thinking and expression. The project will conclude its workshops in the summer of 2023.

Where is The Fish Market Community Engagement Project located?

It is located at the newly renovated fish market building at 2952 6th Ave Troy, NY
