Have you always wondered what it would be like to take a woodworking class? Try it! Get a feel for our woodworking classes before you sign up for an extended course. In this class, students will learn about the possibilities in our woodworking studio including an introduction to our shop rooms, equipment, tools and more. Students can watch a demo, try working with the materials, and gain knowledge to jump start your interest in woodworking!

Woodworking 101

June 6, 2013 to July 18, 2013 — 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM Instructor: Joshua Pickens

This workshop introduces beginners to basic woodworking skills. Aspiring woodworkers will be familiarized with the shop environment, learn the safe and proper use of many common woodworking tools and several woodworking techniques. Tool instruction will include the safe and proper usage of the table saw, surface planer, clamps, band saw, stationary sanders, palm sanders, and carving tools. Other techniques may be introduced as time permits. There will also be lectures on safety, wood species, and finishing. No previous experience in woodworking is required. Note: Students will be learning to work with hand tools as well as power tools. Fine motor coordination is required for this course. Every step will be clearly demonstrated, and all techniques, safety tips and guidelines will be explained before anyone is asked to use any equipment.
