Woodworking 101November 4, 2014 to December 2, 2014 — 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM Instructor: Curtis Hebert
This class introduces beginners to basic woodworking skills. Aspiring woodworkers will be familiarized with the shop environment, learn the safe and proper use of many common woodworking tools, as well as several woodworking techniques. Tool instruction will include the safe and proper usage of the table saw, surface planer, clamps, band saw, stationary sanders, palm sanders, and carving tools. Other techniques may be introduced as time permits. There will also be lectures on safety, wood species, and finishes. No experience necessary. Students will learn to work with hand tools as well as power tools; fine motor coordination is required for this course. Each step will be clearly demonstrated, and all techniques, safety tips and guidelines will be explained before use of equipment.

Woodworking for WomenNovember 5, 2014 to December 10, 2014 — 06:00 PM to 09:00 PM Instructor: Melissa Collins
This continuing woodworking class is designed for women who have some comfort with woodworking equipment, but want to sharpen their skills. You’ll explore further the possibilities of working with wood as you work primarily with hand tool techniques, with a power tool or two thrown in. Each student will complete the class with a finished project, and skills that they can continue to use on their own. No class 11/26.
