The Arts Center of the Capital Region presents Sessions Online. We have expanded our Sessions program with our Curator Belinda Colón to include all aspects of Community Arts Conversations from artist talks to studio tours and demo sessions. We are now including all mediums of art via an online platform during our limited in-person interaction period.

Episode 5: Colie Collen

Colie Collen is a floral and garden designer based in South Troy. Her experience on the West Coast, and gardening here in Troy for almost 10 year, has shaped her wild, organic aesthetic and her application for the seasons. She has a Horticulture Certificate from the Berkshire Botanical Garden and a library of garden books that won’t stop growing.

Episode 5: Sasha Dubodel

Please join us for our fifth online Session: a conversation between Artist, Sasha Dubodel and Arts Center Board Member, Sasha Herzig.

More about Sasha: Metalsmith Sasha Dubodel is an art historian and metalsmith from Gomel, Belarus, based in Troy, NY. She received a Bachelor’s in Visual Arts and Art History from Union College, NY and a Master’s in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts at NYU. Dubodel studied silver and goldsmithing with various independent instructors in New York, and is continuing to expand her skills through experimentation and self-teaching. Her studio, Rasvet Jewelry Co., focuses on history and nature inspired jewelry and life accessories, using traditional metalsmithing and ancient lost-wax casting techniques to create small-run and one-of-a-kind pieces using recycled metals. When not in the studio Dubodel can be found eating too many potato chips, researching, writing, and hiking.

Leo Martinez Davis is an American-Venezuelan designer, digital marketer, and third-generation artist currently living in Troy, NY. By day, Leo uses strategic thinking and data-informed creative direction to manage a team of graphic designers for a prominent ed-tech company. By night, he finds joy in educating, informing, entertaining, and engaging with others through many creative mediums, such as painting, photography, blogging, social media storytelling, and selling merch on justsoantsy.com.

More about Aaron Marquise: Contemporary Circus & Immersive Arts – Performing Artist

Aaron Marquise was born and raised in Round Lake, New York. He grew up performing at the former New York State Theatre Institute in Troy, NY, where he also spent his senior year of high school as an intern. Continuing a career in theater, Aaron went on to study Musical Theatre with a minor in Playwriting at Marymount Manhattan College in NYC. After discovering the circus world, Aaron auditioned at the prestigious National Circus School in Montréal, Canada where he graduated in 2015. Since joining the circus world Aaron has had the opportunity to perform in Quebec, France, Switzerland, and Germany. In the fall of 2019, Aaron served as a Production Assistant to the Creative Team on the North American tour of Disney’s Frozen The Musical. Various directing credits includePB & J Café: Stuart Little, James and the Giant Peach, Jr., assistant director/circus consultant for Pippin and assistant director for Les Misérables all for the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors. He has previously served as the Arts Education Manager at the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors and theREP.  In 2019, Aaron founded the Contemporary Circus & Immersive Arts Center in Troy, NY where he currently serves as the Executive Director.

More about James Barker: Forts Ferry Farm – Ceramicist

James Barker is an artist, designer and educator, and currently serves as the Chief Creative Officer and Co-Owner at Forts Ferry Farm. James holds an MFA from Alfred University, a BFA in ceramics from Ohio University, and undertook Post-Baccalaureate studies at Kansas State University and the University of Montana. Prior to his time at Forts Ferry Farm, he served as the Exhibitions Coordinator and Preparator at the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. He previously held Adjunct Faculty positions teaching ceramics at The Ohio State University and Instructor of Record at Alfred University.  James also curated multiple exhibitions at the Sculpture Center in Cleveland.  As the Creative Officer at Forts Ferry Farm, James provides guidance and ideas to launch new and dynamic art driven projects, marketing campaigns and educational programs.

More about Tori: Troy Pop Up – Sculptor
Tori Rodriguez was born and raised in Ballston Spa, New York.  She is a sculptress, painter, and master tinkerer. She received her A.A.S in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC and received a diploma in welding from the Modern Welding School in Schenectady, NY.

She is inspired by her experiences and travels. She is also the organizer for Troy Pop Up Art Show in Troy, New York.

SESSIONS

Join our curator, Belinda Colón as she hosts a private occasion for artists to present their work on the second Tuesday of every month starting in November at The Arts Center of the Capital Region. You have an opportunity to show Belinda your work in a five minute presentation of your choice. SESSIONS is open to all artists within the Capital Region and beyond with the opportunity to be seen by a larger network of arts administrators. CV or Artist Resumes are mandatory to participate.
