My Street

My Street is an after school art program for 4th and 5th graders at School 2 in Troy with the focus of improving neighborhoods through public art, sponsored by One Troy. Divided into two semesters, beginning last spring and culminating in December, students have worked with instructors from the Arts Center and the Troy Architectural Project to develop their own public art project. The first project, unveiled in June, was an installation of cut out murals placed in an empty lot across from the school. Currently, the students are developing more cut out murals to install throughout the neighborhood. In addition, students wanted to use fashion as a means of displaying their art to the public. They created a My Street t-shirt and each student designed their own pair of sneakers.
