Have your birthday party at The Arts Center of the Capital Region!

The Arts Center offers a wide variety of age-appropriate art activities for you and your child to choose from. Parties are generally 2 hours and include an arts activity and “cake time.” The Arts Center provides an artist instructor/host and materials for all activities. Birthday families provide refreshments and decorations.

WHO Made That?? Owl Collage – Ages 5 to adult

Students will work with various colors, textures and shapes to create ridiculously awesome owl collages. We’ll frame them at the end of class so that each child can proudly display his or her owl-friend at home. The quirky shapes and professional presentation will have everyone asking, “WHO made that?!”

Wizards in Training – Ages 6 to 10

Does your child love wizards, magicians and whimsy? In this class students will create delightful wizard hats and magic wands that will transport them to a world of enchanted fairytale. With an array of decorations to choose from, we’ll customize each child’s hat and wand to their liking.

 

Master’s Class – Klimt: Color, Cut, Doodle and Draw – Ages 6 to adult

Students will create masterpieces that resemble the intricately detailed work of Gustav Klimt during his “Golden Phase.” One of our artists will guide them as they make magic out of simple drawings, using metallic markers and detailing to help the pieces come to life. Each dazzling picture will be framed at the end of class.

 

Master’s Class – Jackson Pollock: The Splatter Paint Project – Ages 6 to adult

Students will get lost in the artistic process as they drip, drop and splatter colorful paint onto pristine white canvases, a la Jackson Pollock. Flowing from the tips of sticks and brushes, these abstract paintings will take shape right before their very eyes. (Please Note: canvases will still be wet at the end of the party. Parents are strongly encouraged to lay a cloth down on the car seat while transporting the finished pieces home.)

 

Printmaking – Ages 6 to adult

Printmaking is all the rage in design right now, and in this class students will learn how the pros do it! Using printmaking ink and Styrofoam sheets, each child will make a relief print that will be framed at the end of class. Choose from the following themes, which will be adjusted for your child’s age group, or suggest your own:

  • Flower Power
  • Bugs and Critters
  • Under the Sea
  • Forest Friends
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles

 

Silk Scarves – Ages 8 to adult

Punchy prints abound in this hand-dyed silk scarf class. Students will create their own hip and colorful scarf from a rainbow of color options. Lightweight and breezy, these 100% silk scarves will up the style of any outfit and make it your child’s own. Choose between square or long rectangular.

 

Custom Canvas Bags – Ages 8 to adult

Whether going to market, school or the library, everyone needs a hip canvas bag to tote their treasure. Students will design and decorate white canvas bags using an array of materials. Choose from the following themes, which will be adjusted for your child’s age group, or suggest your own:

  • Outer Space Odyssey
  • Flower Power
  • Bugs and Critters
  • Under the Sea
  • Forest Friends
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles

 

Totally Tie Dye – Ages 9 to adult

Get ready to totally have some fun! Each student can create up to two shirts in this fun and funky garment class. From different tying methods to choosing colors, the kids will have a ball customizing their creations. And with enough time to dye up to two shirts, they can experiment like crazy! (Please Note: Shirts are not included and must be provided by the students. 100% cotton is strongly suggested. Dyed shirts will be sent home in a Ziploc bag with instructions for washing.)

 

Hair Fascinators – Ages 9 to adult

Fascinator hair accessories are all the rage! From the runway to weddings, parties and even everyday, they’re a fun and easy way to stand out from the crowd. This is for the little (and not so little!) ladies whom have grown out of dress up but now love to take on their own wardrobe, through expression of personality. Using three different styles to help spur their creative journey, students will choose from a variety of materials to create a piece that reflects their style. They will be able to select the size, adornments and create a shape of their choice.

 

Off Broadway – Ages 9 to adult

Who wants to be a star?! We all do! In this class the birthday group will experience a range of theater and drama activities, including improve, playwriting and acting. Surprise twists thicken the plot, and the birthday guest plays a special role.
