Never painted in oils before? This painting class is for beginners or those who desire a refresher course after a long break from painting. You will learn to see well, simplify the visual world into basic shapes, values, and color. This class will enhance students’ confidence in their ability to start a painting on their own. All materials are provided.
11/02/22-12/14/22 | Landscape Painting in Oils | SOLD OUT!
Take part in this oil landscape painting class with a focus on strongly developing the composition. Start with a value sketch prior to establishing the image using a few simplified primary shapes. A suggested materials list is available upon registration. Please bring a large (8×10), good quality photo to work from, or your smart-tablet. You will be encouraged to paint the landscape with your personal response and expression. Prior drawing and painting experience required. Please note, this class is solvent-free. NO CLASS 11/23
11/03/22-12/15/22 Individualized Study in Oil Painting | SOLD OUT!
Hone in on advanced techniques in oil painting and build upon the skills you already have! Discuss the materials and tools of oil painting and witness demonstrations. It is recommended that you have some prior experience with oil painting or have taken Beginning Oil Painting at the Arts Center. Students will need to provide their own brushes, palette knives, and paints. Canvases will be provided. Please note, this class is solvent-free. No class 11/24.
11/05/22-11/05/22 Intuitive Painting
Discover your own unique imagery, with flowing tempera color on large sheets of paper. By focusing on the painting process, without observing a subject or even having anything in mind, we can explore color, form, and gesture, guided by an inner sense of direction, free from expectations. Marks suggest shapes; images begin to emerge and change, as with dreams. Curiosity and wonder invite staying present with whatever unfolds spontaneously. Learn ways to continue painting intuitively at home. Everyone is welcome, first-time and long-time painters, alike. All materials will be provided, and students will have a break for lunch.

Snow is the artist’s friend. It simplifies the landscape and enables us to focus on seeing shapes and colors of shadows. This class will help you see snow in a fresh way and learn painting techniques of layering to create a beautiful snow scene. Bring in a photo of a snow scene or choose one of the instructors to paint from.
