Unannounced: The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company

Dance in Unexpected Places! is a four part, highliy visible introduction to modern dance that will be performed by The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company at The Arts Center of the Capital Region. Dance in Unexpected Places! engages new audiences, particularly children and families, in modern dance by offering performances that are surprising, whimsical, unconventional, and accessible. During the course of each of the four Unexpected evenings, six ESDC dancers will engage in three 20 minute performances: moving through the lobby of The Arts Center, in and around the audience, using furniture, the main stairway, the front desk, and other “unexpected” spaces, while dancing to ambient sound. At the end of each performance, the dancers, many of whom are dancer instructors at The Arts Center, will engage the audience in conversation about the performance: what it is like to be a professional artists, how the dances were choreographed, how were the dances rehearsed, and so on. As a result of these five evenings, as many as 4,000 people in the Capital Region will be exposed to, engaged in, and memerized by modern dance in an unconvential and — well, unexpected– setting, as only ESDC can do.
