Beginning Wheel

Learn how to “throw” on the potter’s wheel! Create vases, bowls, pots, and more. This class is for true beginners who have always wanted to try the wheel. This is a fun, hands-on class for any enthusiastic beginner, and can be repeated to better improve your skills.

Intermediate & Advanced Techniques

Improve your skills both on and off the wheel and expand on your personal practice with new techniques. Learn alternative approaches to wheel throwing, slab making, and S-crack prevention. We will also cover finishing techniques including trimming, adding handles, basic glazing, and surface techniques. Practice, practice and mastery is coming!

Teen Wheel (Ages 12–18)

Have you always wanted to learn how to make ceramic bowls, plates, and vases? This is a beginning class for teens of all ages (12–18) who want to learn the basics of “throwing” on the potter’s wheel. Instructional demonstrations will focus on these three basic forms, and you will have your own time to practice creating pottery to take home. This is a fun, hands-on class for any enthusiastic beginner or those who want to better improve their skills. NO CLASS 4/14.

Raku: Alternate Firing

In this class you will throw forms to be fired using the raku process. Raku is a process by which pottery is fired at a relatively low temperature and then moved while hot to a closed container with combustible materials (such as paper or sawdust) that ignite and cause a reaction, creating colors and patterns in the pottery’s surface. Pots will be burnished, brushed with Terra Sigillata, and burnished again before being bisqued. Please note, firing will take place off-site at the instructor’s residence.

Beyond Beginning Wheel

Go beyond basic wheel throwing to explore intermediate forms. An introduction to creating bottles, lids and handles will be covered in this wheel class for the enthusiastic beginner or intermediate student. Majolica Painting

This workshop will introduce participants to the ancient art of majolica, or painting on ceramic ware with ceramic glazes, and its painterly, expressive and creative possibilities. No prior experience with clay or painting necessary. Artists and ceramists will be able to explore and expand their technique and vocabulary. Visual inspiration will be provided for subject matter and motifs.
