This class will define and clarify the functions of most DSLR cameras, explore shooting techniques, and introduce digital viewing and editing on the computer. Students will learn about depth of field, aperture, exposure, light meter, quality settings, shutter speeds, and basic composition. A DSLR camera can be provided, but if you have your own, please bring it with you. Please bring a flash drive to save your work.

Expand on the basic photography skills taught in Photography 101 and gain exposure to a variety of “real world” situations to better improve images. Students will also be introduced to working with models, basic post-production techniques, working with camera RAW, shooting with both natural and studio lighting, and more. Prerequisite: Photography 101 or a background in photography with 100% shooting in manual settings is required for this course. NO CLASS 2/12.

Macro Photography

Explore the world of macro photography while on location shooting a variety of interesting subjects. First, we will meet at the Arts Center to go over the basics of shooting, and then we will travel on location to explore the world close up. Later in the afternoon, you will return to the Arts Center to share your discoveries. Prerequisite: Intro to Photography or firm knowledge of aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and camera metering.

New York's Capital Region dazzles at night! Let's shoot the moon, stars, city lights and our incredible local architecture! You’ll push your use of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to your creative advantage and employ mobile apps to plan for astrological events. Bring your DSLR (with manual capabilities) and a tripod for a fun night photographing Empire Plaza. With the images you create, we'll explore introductory techniques of editing in Adobe Lightroom CC. You’ll then share your work and process during final project critiques!

Come practice in the streets of Troy and share your work, adventures, and subjects' stories with classmates!
