Exhibit Opportunities
Call For Artists and Curators
The Arts Center’s exhibition program mission is to exhibit great contemporary art; challenge viewers and engage them in accessible dialogue. In the Main Gallery we unite nationally recognized artists with regional artists, and usually produce brochures of the exhibits that include essays as well as images of exhibits.
Critical to the mission, is to invite outside curators to create exhibits. We have worked with such curators as Ian Berry from the Tang Teaching Museum, Jessica Hough from The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Lisa Dorin from Williams College Museum of Art, and most recently Susette Min, Marisa White, and Luis Camnitzer of The Drawing Center, NYC. Through these new relationships we have shaped an exhibits program that continues to grow, including creating cutting-edge projects such as Factory Direct, an exhibit that stemmed from an artist residency at local industries. We have had work in our exhibitions by artists such as Jenny Holzer, Mark Dion, Vito Acconci, and Kara Walker.
Every year the exhibitions program calls for curatorial proposals and artist’s slides. Often there are specific thematic exhibitions called for in addition to an open call. The open call is used to support a slide registry for future curators, possible residency projects and one-person exhibitions for regional artists in the President’s Gallery. Artwork is called for in any and all media including installation and video. Selections are made by a committee.
