WHAT IS THE FENCE SHOW?
Now in its 51st year, the Fence Show got its name when members’ artwork was exhibited on the iron fence surrounding Washington Park in Troy, the original location of the Arts Center. Today, the exhibition typically features approximately 500 pieces, displayed salon style (floor-to-ceiling) in our galleries. All levels of skill and ability are represented, from novice to professional. We invite you to become a part of the tradition!

JUROR
Kimberly Marrero, Art Advisor & Independent Curator, will serve as this year’s juror. She will identify approximately 50 pieces from the Fence Salon, which will later be assembled into the Fence Select, an exhibition that runs for several weeks after the Fence Salon is taken down.

Kimberly Marrero holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Dowling College with continued studies in the area of Latin American Art History at School Of Visual Arts. Ms. Marrero is currently based in New York City as an independent curator and museum educator at the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, and has worked with many renowned artists, galleries and alternative art spaces around the world. kmartadvisory.com.

AWARDS
New this year, we will be awarding a total of $3000 in cash awards, to be selected by the juror and staff at the Arts Center. The awards are intended to support artists of all levels of experience, and are made possible through the generous support of Karen & Chet Opalka and the Marcelle Foundation. The Fence Awards will be announced at the Gala on May 19.

JOIN US! THE ARTS CENTER GALA
The Fence Show will coincide with the Arts Center’s signature fund raising event, the Arts Center Gala, on Thursday, May 19 at 5:30 PM. Fence Awards will be announced, and the artwork chosen by the juror for the Fence Select will be revealed that evening. Gala attendees will get a sneak peek of the Fence Show before the exhibit opens to the public on May 20.

ELIGIBILITY
The Fence Show is open to all members of the Arts Center whose membership is valid through June 30, 2016. Memberships can be renewed at any time before or during drop-off. See the reverse side for more information about membership.

Schools are allowed to enter up to five student works for an entry fee of $35 per school (equivalent to a student membership). The juror will identify several pieces to be assembled into a smaller Student Select exhibition, and Student Fence Awards will also be given.
