This course will define and clarify the functions that are found on most digital SLR cameras, shooting techniques, and an introduction to digital viewing and editing on the computer. Students will learn about depth of field, aperture, exposure, light meter, quality settings, shutter speeds, and basic composition. Students can bring their own DSLR camera, or use one at The Arts Center. Please bring a USB flash drive to save your work. No class 7/4.

Farmer’s Market Yoga

This “yoga fusion” class has an upbeat, energetic vibe supported by eclectic music that will suit yogis of all levels. Om style yoga is a blended practice of flowing yoga asanas informed by precise attention to alignment and supported by the relaxed wakefulness of Buddhist mindfulness meditation. Stained Glass

The best stained glass pulls the viewer into beautiful, colored worlds. Begin to work your way toward perfecting this art form as you learn the basics during this camp, including stained glass design and construction, glass cutting, copper foiling, soldering and cleaning. Each student will create their own, unique stained glass panel to take home.

The Modest Mug

In this course, intermediate to advanced level students will be challenged to make their mugs better. Students will focuses strongly on the techniques needed to make a “good mug” through exploration of purpose, function and aesthetics.

Independent Study in Stained Glass

This class is a continuing development of stained glass with refinement in both technical and aesthetic pursuits with a focus on independent study. Working with the instructor, students will create a variety of finished projects that express their own interests in the art of stained glass in terms of technique, style, and subject. Students should have taken stained glass at The Arts Center or have previous stained glass experience.

Jewelry Sampler Workshop

Are you a bead jewelry designer who’s looking to take their skills to the next level? Or are you interested in jewelry classes at The Arts Center, but aren’t ready to commit to a 10 week course? This workshop will satisfy your curiosity and introduce you to the tools and metalworking techniques taught in our longer classes. We’ll start with a tour of the jewelry studio and all of its awesome equipment, then your instructor will give demonstrations of foundation skills like sawing, filing, polishing and forging. The remainder of the class will be loosely structured to allow students to try their hand at these new skills and get familiar with the tools and materials in the jewelry studio.

Introduction to Watercolors with Robert Moylan

Students will discover their own approach to painting with transparent watercolors. Learn how to use the materials, practice different techniques and apply color theory while creating vibrant watercolor paintings of various subject matter. Some drawing and painting experience is helpful for this class.

Hammered Link Bracelet Workshop

Students will create a sterling silver bracelet while learning several new skills in the jewelry studio. We will make round links (jump rings) from straight wire, learn how to pick solder, add texture by hammering, then polish the links to a high luster. The links will then be connected to each other by a wire wrapped bead in the student’s choice of either amethyst or moonstone. Time permitting, students may also make a matching pair of earrings. Please let the registrar know your choice of bead when signing up for this class, or feel free to bring beads from your personal collection. This class is appropriate for students with some metalworking experience, or those with good manual dexterity who are brave enough to dive into uncharted waters and try something new!

Subliminal Transcriptions

A Cut Through the Invisible

Subliminal Transcriptions is a light installation using simple means, a light source
and a reflector, to amplify minuscule conditions that are normally overlooked. The
resultant is a transcription of the topography of the reflector in light drawings.

This immersive light installation with sound is created by Yael Erel.

Wire Wrapped Bracelet

This introductory course in wire wrapping will use sterling silver wire to create a unique bracelet. Basic wire wrapping techniques will be covered and at least one bracelet will be finished and ready to wear by the end of class. Students must bring $25 in check or cash payable directly to the instructor for materials. If you have your own needle nose pliers or wire-cutters, please bring them with you.
