This class is for both beginning and advanced students to learn about the basic process of etching medium or to explore etching in greater depth. The etching techniques covered in the class would include a) hard-ground and aquatint etching to produce both linear and tonal effects, and b) soft-ground to create textures and painterly effects on etching. There will be demonstrations and plenty of sample prints for each medium for students to look at. You are encouraged to bring into class ideas that you are interested in pursuing; bring your sketches, personal photos and resources of your interests, which can help you make the contents of your images. Let’s explore a variety of etching techniques and get familiar with the medium of a long tradition. The class will provide materials necessary including zinc plates, tools and papers. No class on 5/28.
