Adobe Photoshop is a tool that can be used by artists working in all media, to document, archive, and market their work. In this class, participants will learn how to use Photoshop to accomplish everyday artist related tasks, such as creating a postcard or poster to advertise an exhibition, retouching photographs of their work to present professionally, and creating imaged for use on the web. During this class, participants will learn and acquire the skills needed to use the program to serve artist-specific needs and the knowledge to continue using Photoshop on their own.

Screen Printing: From Design to Finished Print

Join us for an exciting collaboration between downtown Troy neighbors The Arts Center and Design It Together. Students will work in The Arts Center’s digital arts studio (265 River St.) from on 6/26 from 6:00 – 9:30 PM to create their own unique design for a t-shirt or poster using Adobe Creative Suite design software. The following Saturday, 6/29 from 1:30 – 5PM, the group will meet at Design It Together (291 River St.) and learn about the process of silk screen printmaking and print their own their t-shirt or poster under the expert guidance of Ben and Taylor. No design or printmaking experience is necessary to participate. Space is limited to five students, so please register at least two weeks in advance.

Principles of Graphic Design

In this workshop, students will be introduced to the elements and principles of basic design. Part history lesson, and part art class, students will learn about design in the world we live in (the good and the bad) and create a variety of projects including logomarks, posters, mailers, ads, and brochures. Through the study of typography, design concepts, and design problem-solving, students will learn about visual communication, creating and finessing a design and working with the creative process with a final product in mind. Using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, we’ll work through basic design projects as well as view and discuss a variety of professional work samples.
