108 Sun Salutations: An Event Welcoming the Winter Solstice

December 20, 2014 — 01:00 PM to 02:45 PM Instructor: Maria Bowers

On December 22 it will be the darkest day of the year, when the Sun reaches its most southern point in the sky at local noon. After this date, the days start getting longer. Come celebrate the Winter Solstice with the 108 sun salutations! The 108 Sun Salutations is an ancient practice that is symbolic to embracing courage and clarifying intention. 108 Sun Salutations are challenging, but the class is well-paced. We start out slowly, thinking about all the good things that we have accomplished, we gradually speed up – heating our core and refining our intention with an active letting go of every little hurt, doubt and fear and as we again slow down the pace, we embrace and visualize our future intentions. We mark each of the 9 sets with 4 creek stones – 27 times 3 is 108. You do not need to do all 108 sun salutations – you can add energy to the room with beautiful rolling oms or hand drumming. All levels are welcome to participate in this event.
